ASSOCIATE COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
REL 101 Introduction to the Bible 3 units This course is an introduction to the themes and books of the Old and New Testaments. Students will learn the core messages of love, salvation and forgiveness in the Bible.
REL 102 Old Testament: The Law Books (Torah) 3 units This course will focus on understanding the Law of the Hebrews as given by God to Moses. The Torah, the Law, also know and the Pentateuch is the first 5 books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy.
REL 103 Old Testament: Historical Books 3 units This course is a study of the Historical Books include Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1st and 2nd Samuel, 1st and 2nd Kings, 1st and 2nd Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, and Esther. Students learn that these books share a prophetic view of history describing how the obedience or disobedience of God's people is directly tied to the blessings and curses of the covenant.
REL 104 Old Testament: Wisdom Books 3 units This course is a study of the Wisdom Books. Students will understand the history and message of The Wisdom books; Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. Concepts such as the trials of mankind as it relates to wisdom and understanding will be discussed.
REL 105 Old Testament: Prophetic Books 3 units This course examines the Major Prophets Books including Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Ezekiel, and Daniel. Students will also learn the prophetic messages of the Minor Prophets including; Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.

Topics include moral and doctrinal reformation, the formation and distinctions of major church movements, and the interplay and tension between Christianity and the state
REL 505 Christian Theology This course is an examination of Biblical exegesis as it relates to understanding the theology of the church from the Old Testament to the New Testament.
REL 510 Understanding the Old Testament This course tracks salvation history as it appears in nearly every book of the Old Testament, and shows the vital relationship of the Old Testament to the New Testament.
REL 515 Torah This course is a study of the writings of the first five books of the Old Testament. The books of Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy will be examined.
REL 520 Wisdom Literature This course is an examination of Biblical Wisdom literature such as Psalms, Proverbs, and Song of Solomon, within its ancient Near Eastern context, with special attention to the unique literary aspects of Wisdom literature and its function in ancient Israel.
REL 525 Gospels This course is a study of the writings of the four Gospels of the New Testament. The books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John will be examined.
REL 530 Acts of the Apostles This course is a study of the New Testament book of Acts and the history and context of first-century Christianity. Students consider the historical, literary, and cultural background of Acts as well as its theological message and major themes.
REL 535 Pauline Epistles This course is a study of the writings of the Apostle Paul. Students consider the cultural and philosophical background of each text as well as its contents and its place in the canon. The course examines the literature theologically and exegetically while inviting students to develop and consider personal applications of the texts.
REL 540 General Epistles This course is an exegetical study of the general epistles (James through Jude). Students examine theological, literary, and cultural aspects of these letters as they consider the application of these texts.
REL 550 Revelation This course is a study of the book of Revelation as it relates to prophecy, also known as the Apocalypse of Saint John.
REL 520 Apologetics This course is an exploration of the branch of theology that deals with articulating the reasonableness of Christian faith as well as developing meaningful responses to common objections. Students examine theoretical and applied apologetics and the nature of the relationship between faith and reason, as well as specific problems and implications arising from our postmodern, pluralistic cultural context.
REL 560 Christian Discipleship and Ethics In this course, students examine the Biblical and philosophical basis of personal spiritual formation and growth as well as an examination of the role of Scripture in processes of moral discernment.

Program Description The Doctor of Theology and Religious Studies Program brings together students who are interested in having a solid Biblical foundation and training in order to be able to fulfill the Great Commission of bringing the Good News of the Gospel around the globe. Students are required to complete 45 Units of post-graduate work. REL 703 The Torah This course is a study of the five books of the Torah. The laws, which form the basis of Israel’s theocracy, are examined with regard to their content, meaning, and applicability today.
REL 704 Conquest & Settlement This course is a study of the conquest and settlement period of Israel’s history. The books covered are Joshua, Judges, and Ruth. Special consideration is given to late Bronze Age materials from Palestine, which provides the cultural background for this era.
REL 705 The United and Divided Monarchy This course is a historical, archaeological, and theological analysis of the United Monarchy in Israel. The books covered are I & II Samuel, the first ten chapters of I Kings, and the parallel passages in Chronicles and Psalms.
